Onoki was the Third Tsuchikage of Iwagakure, the Hidden Stone Village, and one of the longest-serving Kage in Naruto history. Despite his small stature and advanced age, he commanded among the most feared abilities in the shinobi world: Dust Release, also known as Particle Style. This Kekkei Tota, a rare combination of Earth, Wind, and Fire Release, allowed him to disintegrate any matter caught within its cubic barrier at the molecular level, leaving no trace behind.

Born during the era of the First Hokage and Madara Uchiha, Onoki witnessed the founding of the Hidden Villages and the early conflicts that shaped the shinobi world. He trained under the Second Tsuchikage Muu, inheriting both the Dust Release technique and a deep sense of responsibility for Iwagakure's place among the Five Great Shinobi Nations. Throughout his long life, Onoki maintained Iwagakure as a major power through shrewd politics, military strength, and an unwillingness to compromise with rival villages.

Onoki's defining moment came during the Fourth Great Ninja War, where at nearly eighty years old he served as one of the supreme commanders of the Allied Shinobi Forces. He faced the reanimated Madara Uchiha in combat alongside the other four Kage, unleashing his Dust Release against Susanoo and the wood-style techniques that had terrorised generations of shinobi. This worldview made him resistant to the Allied Shinobi Forces proposal initially, as he could not accept that old enemies like Konoha and Sunagakure would genuinely cooperate with Iwagakure. His catchphrase "Hmph" and his habit of stroking his beard while thinking reflected a man who trusted nothing and nobody.

Beneath his gruff exterior, Onoki carried deep guilt about his past. He admitted to Gaara that he had refused to send aid to Sunagakure during a crisis years earlier, prioritising Iwagakure's interests over the greater good. This confession revealed that Onoki was not ignorant of morality but had actively chosen to compromise it for practical reasons. Gaara's willingness to forgive him and his genuine idealism forced Onoki to confront his own cynicism, eventually leading him to embrace the alliance wholeheartedly.

Onoki was fiercely proud of Iwagakure and its shinobi. He took personal responsibility for training and leading his village's forces, and he demanded respect for Iwagakure's position among the Five Great Nations. He had a stubborn streak that made him difficult to persuade, but once convinced, he committed fully. His relationship with his granddaughter Kurotsuchi showed a softer side, as he tolerated her blunt criticisms and even seemed amused by her irreverence. He also had a dry sense of humour, often making sarcastic remarks during tense situations.

In battle, Onoki was analytical and methodical. He studied opponents before committing to attacks, and he adjusted his tactics fluidly as situations changed. Despite his age, he had the stamina to fight extended engagements and the willpower to push through injuries that would have incapacitated younger shinobi. Dust Release (Particle Style)

Dust Release, or Jinton, was Onoki's signature ability and the centrepiece of his combat arsenal. As a Kekkei Tota, it required the simultaneous manipulation of three chakra natures: Earth, Wind, and Fire. Five Kage Summit Arc

Onoki made his first appearance during the Five Kage Summit called by the Fourth Raikage in response to Akatsuki's escalating threat. He arrived at the Summit with his granddaughter Kurotsuchi and bodyguard Akatsuchi, immediately establishing his sceptical, guarded attitude toward the other villages. When the Raikage proposed forming a unified alliance against Akatsuki, Onoki was the most vocal opponent. He argued that the other villages had allowed Akatsuki to grow powerful through their own negligence and that Iwagakure should not be expected to bail them out.

During the Summit, Onoki engaged in tense negotiations with the other Kage. He was particularly resistant to the Raikage's aggressive demands and dismissive of the Mizukage's attempts at diplomacy. His position softened somewhat when Sasuke Uchiha attacked the Summit, forcing the Kage to cooperate in self-defence. Onoki confronted Sasuke directly, unleashing a Particle Style cube that Sasuke barely escaped using Susanoo. When Sasuke fled after Danzo's death, Onoki joined the other Kage in signing the Allied Shinobi Forces treaty, though with visible reluctance.

Fourth Great Ninja War Arc

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Onoki served as one of the supreme commanders of the Allied Shinobi Forces alongside the other four Kage. His initial role involved overseeing the transportation and deployment of Iwagakure forces, using his weight manipulation to accelerate the movement of troops across the battlefield. When the reanimated shinobi army attacked, Onoki coordinated Iwagakure's response while monitoring the larger war situation. He was instrumental in the decision to deploy the Turtle Island tactic, using his weight increase technique to drop the massive creature onto the enemy forces.

Onoki's most significant contribution came when he faced the reanimated Madara Uchiha alongside the other four Kage. The battle against Madara pushed Onoki to his absolute limits. He launched Particle Style cubes against Madara's Perfect Susanoo, one of the few attacks that could threaten the legendary Uchiha. He lived long enough to see the peace that the Allied Shinobi Forces had fought for, watching as Naruto Uzumaki fulfilled his dream of becoming Hokage and as the Five Great Villages entered an unprecedented era of cooperation. Muu (Second Tsuchikage)

Onoki trained under Muu, the Second Tsuchikage, inheriting the Dust Release ability that made both of them legends. Muu was known as the "Non Person" for his ability to erase his chakra signature completely, making him among the most feared shinobi of his era. Onoki tolerated her irreverence in a way he would not have tolerated from anyone else, suggesting a close familial bond beneath their bickering. He trained her to eventually take his position, ensuring that Iwagakure would be in capable hands.

Gaara (Fifth Kazekage)

Onoki's relationship with Gaara was among the most transformative in his character arc. Onoki initially dismissed Gaara as a naive child when the young Kazekage advocated for the Allied Shinobi Forces. During a private conversation, Gaara confronted Onoki about his refusal to send aid to Sunagakure in the past, forcing Onoki to confront his guilt. Rather than becoming defensive, Onoki admitted his failure and expressed genuine remorse. Gaara's forgiveness and idealism inspired Onoki to embrace the alliance, and he later developed genuine respect for Gaara's leadership, even drawing strength from Gaara's encouragement during the battle against Madara.

Fourth Raikage A

Onoki and the Fourth Raikage clashed repeatedly during the Five Kage Summit, representing two opposing philosophies of leadership. The Raikage favoured aggressive direct action while Onoki preferred cautious strategic positioning. Their arguments delayed the formation of the alliance, but both eventually found common ground in their opposition to Akatsuki. During the war, they fought alongside each other against Madara, their earlier political conflicts set aside in the face of a common enemy.

Madara Uchiha

Onoki's history with Madara Uchiha spanned decades. He first encountered Madara during his youth, when he and Muu fought against the legendary Uchiha in a battle that ended inconclusively. That encounter left a lasting impression on Onoki, who understood better than most Kage the scale of Madara's power. When he faced the reanimated Madara during the Fourth War, Onoki carried the weight of that earlier confrontation. His Dust Release proved one of the few effective weapons against Madara, and Onoki's refusal to surrender, even when facing the full might of Perfect Susanoo and Wood Release, earned even Madara's grudging respect.

Onoki occupies a unique position in Naruto's character roster as the elderly Kage whose power defied every assumption based on age and appearance. His design Masashi Kishimoto intentionally made him comically short and large-nosed, subverting expectations about what a Kage should look like, then proved that his Dust Release could destroy anything in the series.
